Everyone has different eating preferences, tracking needs, and diet types. This is why MyFitnessPal offers our users a high level of customizability. Here are some of the things you can do to make MyFitnessPal truly yours.

Customize Your Diary

By default, your Diary will have 4 meal sections, “Breakfast,” “Lunch,” “Dinner,” and “Snacks.” If you want to customize your meal names, MyFitnessPal lets you add or remove meal sections, or even change the names of your meals (e.g., “3 pm Snack” or “Pre-Workout Meal.”)

To do so, go to More Menu > Settings > Diary Settings > Customize Meal Names.

Set Calorie, Macro and Micronutrient, Weight, and Exercise Goals

Set up MyFitnessPal to track the nutrients that matter to you, be it calories, macronutrients (carbs, protein, and fat) or micronutrients (such as fiber, cholesterol, sodium, and more).

To do so, go to More Menu > Goals. Here you can update your weight and weekly goals to get an updated recommended daily calorie goal.

Customize Your Calorie and Macro Goals

We’ve pre-set your calories and macros, but if you have a different calorie goal and macro breakdown from your doctor, dietitian or trainer, you can enter those custom values here. Our premium members have the extra advantage of setting macro numbers to the exact gram rather than just percentages.

To customize your calorie and macro goals: More Menu > Goals > Calorie, Carbs, Protein, and Fat Goals

Set Varied Calorie Goals By Days (Premium Feature)

MyFitnessPal even lets you set a different calorie goal by day. If you vary your calorie intake based on your energy needs (e.g., workout days vs. rest days, or long run days vs. short run days), you’ll love the “Set Daily Goals” feature. You can even change up your macro breakdown for different days if you need more protein on your weight training days.

To set daily goals: More Menu > Goals > Calorie, Carbs, Protein and Fat Goals > Add Daily Goal

Set Meal Goals (Premium Feature)

Setting meal goals is a great strategy to spread your food throughout the day and keep yourself on track. Those who practice nutrient timing and distribute more calories to specific meals would also find this extremely helpful.

More Menu > Goals > Calorie Goals By Meal

Customize Your Nutrient Summary Dashboard (Premium Feature)

We show you your calorie equation by default. However, if you’re more interested in monitoring specific nutrient levels, like your remaining macros or sodium levels, you might want to customize your nutrient summary dashboard on your Home screen and Diary screen. Here’s how:

Optimize How Your Exercise Calories Impact Your Goals (Premium Feature)

Because your daily calorie goal does not factor in exercise or workout sessions, we add those calories back to your daily total (e.g., Calories Remaining = Calorie Goal - Calories Eaten + Calories Burned From Exercise). If you’re a macro tracker, we distribute the calories evenly amongst the various nutrients such as fat, carbs, and protein.

Premium members have the unique ability to change how exercise calories are distributed across the macros. If you prefer your exercise calories contributing to your macros in different ratios, you can do so here. Premium users also have the option to turn exercise calories off, so that their exercise calories have no impact on their remaining calorie and macro amounts.

Settings > Goals > Exercise Calories
